Artist's Description

Quanah Parker was a leader of the Comanche people during the tumultuous transition from free-range life on the southern plains to the ways of reservation life. He became an influential negotiator with government agents, a prosperous cattle-rancher, a vocal advocate of formal education for Native children, and a devout member of the Peyote Cult.

His father was the famous Peta Nocona, chief of the Noconi band of Comanche. His mother was Naudah (Cynthia Ann Parker), a white woman who was taken captive as a young girl from Fort Parker, Texas.

On February 23, 1911, at the age of 66 he died of an undiagnosed illness. He is buried at Fort Sill, Oklahoma.

I got a pickup truck load of this lumber from my sister when she and her...
