Artist's Description
In the background of this colorful piece sits the Tarr & Wonson Paint Factory in Gloucester MA. The factory began manufacturing copper paint for ship bottoms in 1863. The paint was developed to aid the maritime industry. Ships hulls fouled in about six weeks and had to be scrapped, with this new product the vessels could operate for twelve months without issue. The factory operated for over 100 years, closing in 1980.
The commercial fishing boat passing by is named "Sarah" from the bible.
Original artwork is a soft pastel on a prepared hardboard panel. SOLD
