Description
This collage is made up of a collection of facinating vintage snowflake images, circa late 1800's.
An interesting fact: Snowflakes along with basalt salt rock formations, tortoise shell, beehive honeycomb, conifer seed cones, garnet crystals, insect vision, daffodils, agapanthus flowers and wood anemone all have hexagons in their structure.
Dubbed as “Snowflake”, Wilson Alwyn Bentley (1865-1931) was a pioneer in snowflake photomicrography. As a child he was fascinated by the natural world, and by the age of 19 he became the first to successfully capture a snowflake photograph with the help of a feather, a microscope and a camera. I also have snowflakes individually available.
